      Sea How High - An interactive Game

Are the oceans really rising? Would your favorite beach disappear? Or your town? Play “Sea How High”, an interactive game developed by Rutgers Environmental Stewards for the JCNERR. “Sea How High” is a fun way to reward students and general audiences alike for their accurate information, and to correct misinformation. Explore how to use USCRP’s new dashboard to find resources of different mediums to bring into their classrooms to teach students of different ages about coastal topics.

     Terrapin-mania

Dr. John Wnek, Project Terrapin/Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science

Engage with a local species and how to incorporate some of the latest discoveries about diamondback terrapins into your classroom. The program is applicable to classroom teachers, informal educators and terrapin enthusiasts! Project Terrapin is a local initiative that is conducting field studies at Barnegat Bay. Join us for this program to help us gather data from the field.

     Climate Games

Enhance your climate change lessons with a collection of short, engaging games that teach students the mechanisms and impacts involved in climate change and ocean acidification, possible solutions, and connections to their local environment. Gameplay is highly interactive: some games are foot-stomping, while others are more collected, but all are fun!

     Save Barnegat Bay Educator Network and Climate Change for all classrooms

Emphasis will be on natural and built dunes and berms. Learn what is needed for a dune to form naturally and how we try to help speed or help that process along with management actions. Learn what you can do to help that process as well!

    Rocky Seas: Navigating Changes in Education

Jennifer Lengares-Meyer, Jenkinson’s Aquarium

This session will discuss how changes in policy and government regulation, both federally and at the state level, may impact educators and education in New Jersey.  Using a factual based approach, it will attempt to clarify ongoing questions, and provide reliable data about the status of education, and changes that may be implemented in the near future.  Supportive information will also be provided with a focus on access to data and educational resources.

     Birding at the Beach- Field trip to LBI Beach (max 13 people)

Field trip to look for local birds on the beach and around the area.  Learn about migratory patterns and ecosystem connections while observing our feathery friends.

     Beach Replenishment- Field trip to LBI Beach (max 13 people)

Dave Werner- Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science

Cover beach replenishment projects in Long Beach Island in relation to the social, cultural, and economic status of coastlines. I will also address barrier islands and sea level rise.

     Explore the Bayshore- walking trip

Dr. Amy Williams- Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science

Explore the Bayside of LBI around the Field Station using tools in the field to obtain and observe specimens.
