NJMEA proudly hosts Steve Evert, the Director of Stockton University's Marine Field Station, for a webinar on Feb 5 at 5:30 PM on the "Broadening our definition of marine science – using marine technology to open career opportunities in the coastal sciences".
Marine and coastal sciences are multidisciplinary by their very nature – scientists from many disciplines must work together to protect our coastal resources, create resilient communities, and plan for our future. Marine technology and the field of hydrography plays a large role in our efforts across these many disciplines. This discussion will broaden your understanding of career opportunities in the coastal science realm, which in turn we hope you will communicate to your students and parents to open their eyes to the many paths they can take for a successful career working toward the protection of our coasts.
Steve Evert is the Director of Stockton University’s Marine Field Station, having worked in the area of marine operations and teaching/research program support for almost 30 years. He is a 100 ton USCG licensed captain and has worked with a variety of marine and geospatial technology, including advanced GPS systems, side scan and multibeam sonars, ROV’s, LiDAR systems, magnetometers, and sub-bottom profilers. Mr. Evert has been leading Stockton’s program development in the area of hydrography and has helped placed many students into successful careers involving marine technology and hydrographic/marine operations. He is committed to helping prospective science students see the broader picture of career paths available to them in the coastal realm.
